Nether Portal Guide

Nether ice roads are used to travel across the land in TWS. This is a guide to getting your base connected to the Nether highway.

Nether Portal Rules:

These rules can also be found on the rules page. Note that the Nether ice roads are currently located on the Nether roof.

  1. Tunnels may be up to 5 blocks wide (including walls).
  2. Construct tunnels between the deepslate pillars of the main tunnels.
  3. No exposed bedrock unless by design (work-in-progress is fine).
  4. Add blocks next to the ice road so boats won’t catch on entrances. - Note: carpets and slabs work well!
  5. Label tunnels with resident(s).
  6. Main tunnel height: Y 111.
  7. Tunnels should run straight to your portal with no turns or height changes.

Non-compliant tunnels may be requested to be changed or removed!

Setting up a Nether Portal

1. Decide where your base is located - Be mindful of the rule regarding building 200+ blocks from others.

2. Acquire the necessary materials -  You will need obsidian along with flint and steel. Note that you can obtain obsidian through the vote shop, which makes portal building much easier! 4 vote points = 10× Obsidian. Here's the link to vote for TWS!

3. Build your portal in the Overworld - This will be your main connection to the community of TWS.

4. Determine where your Nether world Nether portal should be placed - Use the Nether Portal Calculator to determine where and which direction your portal needs to be placed in the Nether World.

5. Build your portal in the Nether - Either borrow a nearby player's portal with permission or use the portals at spawn (0,0) to travel to the necessary Nether location to build your portal. Alternatively, you can ask a friend to help build your nether portal in its spot.

6. Light both portals - Your portals should now link, which will allow travel between home and the rest of the world to be much easier.

7. Build your Nether ice path and tunnel - Be mindful of the rules and guidelines. We are not expecting perfection right away, but progress should be made to make the tunnel look nice.

Use buttons, trapdoors, fences, or other transparent blocks to prevent spawning of nether mobs on your ice path!
